Feel the Difference
Our slogan “Feel the Difference” is the best way to describe our product. Unlike traditional etching, sandblasting offers a product that is not just surface level which may fade or deteriorate over repeated hand or dishwashing. Our sandblasted images are carved right into the glass. The images are permanent and can withstand repeated washing by hand, dishwasher, microwave use and repeated chilling in the freezer. They also provide an interesting “feel” to the touch.
Our Story
Meet Adele & Allie, the faces of O.A.K Originals. A mother and daughter-in-law team that started with a family member’s sandblasting hobby and turned it into a small, all Canadian business, from their garage. Adele is a retired strata manager and Allie continues to be a support worker for her local school district. Adele and Allie strive to create beautiful custom glassware which is different from most by offering a carved image.
Wrapped With Care
We create a custom design with our computer software which is then printed with our industrial plotter/cutter onto a heavy vinyl sheet. Once all the areas that are to be sandblasted are removed from the vinyl image, it is applied to the glassware. The rest of the glassware needs to be protected from the blasting process, therefore, we use duct tape, A LOT of duct tape. Each piece is individually sandblasted by hand. This is not a process that you can just drop an item into a machine that does the work for you. We hold each piece individually, determine by eye how deep of a carve each piece can withstand and proceed with the blasting process. Once we finish sandblasting the glass we then soak it in a nice soapy bath to allow removal of the tape and vinyl. We finish by washing all our glasses by hand and prep them for delivery.
